BLUFFED Freeroll Tournament
27th September 2006

A move into the Australian Outback for this week's BLUFFED Freeroll Tournament saw a small, quality field of (mostly) Aussies come together to battle it out for the $200 prize pool without the fear of the European sitout jungle. Chances of cashing were high but the players were competing fiercely with plenty of friendly banter at the tables keeping the rivalries interesting.

The early leader was Gonsky, and he managed to maintain that position for most of the tournament. When he flopped a straight holding QJ we saw our first elimination from the event. Tuffatori looked like she was heading for an early exit also, falling to only 500 in chips early on, but comments about the hair colour (and other body parts!) of her avatar must have inspired her, as she took down some big pots to join the leaders.

TheGuzette was also going well and showing plenty of aggression, while Ale80 was following up on his 10th place finish last week with another strong showing. Ale80 stormed to the lead when his pocket jacks were too good for ssmooth8's pocket sevens on a board of T5Q55. However Gonsky quickly grabbed the lead back again when his pocket aces held up against the all-in bet of pmack66 who only held J9.

Soon after Ale80 took down another massive pot when his AJ knocked out OzDoc's pocket kings in 15th place with a devastatingly cruel ace on the river. At the first break it was Gonsky who held a good lead, with TheGuzette in second place and Ale80 in third.

After a few more eliminations we reached the final table with the chip leaders maintaining their form. However it was TheBigHeffa who was moving chips around, when he put rambojr3 all in holding AT versus rambojr3's pocket fives. rambojr3 said he hoped it was a race, but the race was all over when he flopped a third five to double up.

The very next hand TheBigHeffa was all in again, this time up against the pocket eights of vikes42 and the KJ of TheGuzette. However this time TheBigHeffa was well in front with pocket aces. The aces held up and vikes42 was the first elimination of the final table.

ALIG123 was next to go, with rambojr3 knocking him out with pocket jacks. Meanwhile Gonsky and Ale80 still held the big stacks and they were staying out of trouble. However soon after, a mistimed bluff by Ale80 doubled up bonnie49 and left Ale80 with some work to do. Gonsky then found pocket fives against Baillie11's KQ, and a third five on the flop sent Baillie11 home in 8th place, following his 5th place in last week's event.

The two chip leaders, Gonsky and Ale80, then clashed with Gonsky's QJ grabbing a pair of jacks against Ale80's AT for a pair of tens. This gave Gonsky a monster chip lead, but it wasn't for long. Next hand Gonsky's moved his big stack all-in from under-the-gun with A8s, but TheBigHeffa called instantly holding his second AA of the final table. No help for Gonsky and the TheBigHeffa had doubled up again and taken the chip lead.

Shortly after rambojr3 put in a raise holding AJ, with TheBigHeffa calling from the big blind with KQ. The flop of KQT was heaven for rambojr3 as he flopped the absolute nuts! When the money moved in TheBigHeffa was in trouble, but an amazing queen on the turn gave TheBigHeffa a full house to eliminate a very unlucky rambojr3 in 7th place.

TheBigHeffa's run of cards and luck continued. On a flop of T9K a short stacked bonnie49 moved in holding AQ, however TheBigHeffa had flopped another straight with QJ to send bonnie49 home in 6th place. With 5 players remaining TheBigHeffa held nearly 50% of the chips and was going to be tough to stop. However TheGuzette continued to show aggression and moved up into second place.

TheBigHeffa then had a hiccup when he called the all-in bets of both Gonsky and Ale80 on a king high board. TheBigHeffa held pocket tens but both of his opponents held AK. A third ten didn't arrive and TheBigHeffa had doubled up both of his opponents. However it didn't slow his momentum. Soon after TheBigHeffa raised the big blind of h3len who was severely short stacked. h3len made an easy call with pocket kings and TheBigHeffa sheepishly revealed J8. The flop came 9T3 to give TheBigHeffa some outs, and the queen on the turn gave TheBigHeffa another straight and h3len was unlucky to be out in 5th.

An amazing run of luck continued when TheBigHeffa held AT against Ale80. The flop came QJK for yet another flopped straight! TheBigHeffa put in a small bet, and Ale80 pushed all-in on a unfortunately timed bluff. TheBigHeffa called and Ale80 was out in 4th for another cash finish.

TheGuzette, holding 97, then raised the big blind of TheBigHeffa who decided to call and see a flop with J8. The flop came J83 and TheGuzette moved all-in with the gutshot straight draw. TheBigHeffa called with his two pair, and with no further help coming TheGuzette was out in 3rd place - a great effort.

The heads up battle then started with TheBigHeffa with a near 2:1 chip lead over Gonsky. However that was wiped away very quickly with Gonsky taking control and looking the goods when he took down the first 7 or 8 hands uncontested. TheBigHeffa had to try something different, so he moved all-in to win his first heads up pot. He followed up again the next hand with pocket fours, but this time Gonsky made the call with A2. The board bricked out and TheBigHeffa had doubled up to leave Gonsky in trouble. It was all over next hand with TheBigHeffa putting Gonksy all in with KQ against Gonsky's J9. The board came 22335 to eliminate Gonsky in 2nd and leave TheBigHeffa as this week's BLUFFED Tournament Winner!

Now as some of you are aware, TheBigHeffa is actually a staff member of The BLUFFED Team. The tournament is definitely not rigged as proven by his 165th place finish last week! However it's good news for everybody, as TheBigHeffa has agreed to donate his winnings back into the prize pool for next week's tournament in the form of BLUFFED merchandise. So not only will there be cash prizes awarded but there will be T-Shirts, Ultimate Dealer Buttons, Bluff Magazine Subscriptions and Poker Stubby Holders up for grabs! We will be offering spot prizes and maybe even a bounty or two! Details to follow so stay tuned!
